Supported file formats
Apple iPhone Shared Albums support the following photo formats: , HEIF, JPEG, RAW (You cannot upload RAW photos to Shared Albums on your Windows PC), PNG, GIF, and TIFF. Supported video formats in shared albums include HEVC, MP4, QuickTime, H.264, and MPEG4.
How to share an iPhone photo album
To start sharing your memorable moments, you will first need to create a new shared album. Just open the Photos app and go to the Albums tab. Once there, locate the Add button and hit it. You will then see an option for “New Shared Album”. When you select this, you will be asked to give your new album a name. Create a new shared album on your iPhone
- Go to the Albums tab and hit the Add button.
- Click on the “New Shared Album” option.
- Name the shared album, then tap Next.
- Choose people to invite from your contacts, or type in an iMessage email address or phone number.
- Select Create.
You can invite people from your contact list or manually type an email address or iMessage phone number. After choosing the people you want to share your album with, click Create. Just like that, you have created and shared a new album.

If you are wondering how to fill your new album with content, just follow the steps below. In the Photos app, go to the Library tab or an existing album. Here, click on Select and choose the photos and videos you wish to share. Once you’ve made your selections, click the Share button and then Add to Shared Album. Finally, select the album you want to share the content with and click “Publish”.
Remember that when new content is added to your album, all your subscribers will be notified automatically. If you want subscribers to be able to contribute to the album, make sure Subscribers can post is turned on.
Manage your album
As the creator of the shared album, you control who has access to it. To add more people to your album, select the shared album under the Albums tab, click the People button, then Invite People. Here, you can add the names of the additional people you’d like to share your album with.
Removing a subscriber is just as simple. Inside your album, click the People button, select the subscriber you want to remove and click Remove Subscriber at the bottom of the screen.
Delete a shared album
Sometimes you may need to delete a shared album. Whether it’s storage concerns or just wanting to de-clutter your Photos app, you have complete control over your albums. To delete an album, open the shared album, tap the People button and tap Delete Shared Album.
Please remember that when you delete a shared album, it is removed from all the devices it was shared with, and if you have a Public Website running, the album will also be removed from the web. Most importantly, all the photos in the shared album will be permanently deleted. So, before deleting, make sure you’ve saved any photos you wish to keep.
Save photos and videos from a shared album
If you subscribe to a shared album, you may want to save the photos or videos from the album to your private library. To do this, tap on the photo or video you wish to save, tap on the Share button, and finally tap on Save Photo or Save Video.

However, any photos or videos saved or downloaded from the shared album to your photo library will remain in your library even if the shared album is deleted or if the person who created it stops sharing it.

If you have friends or family members who don’t use iCloud, you might want to turn on Public Location for your shared album. This allows your photos to be published on a website that anyone can view with an updated web browser.
To activate this feature, open a shared album you created, go to the People tab, and turn on Public Location. Now, anyone with the URL of the album can view it. This is a great way to share special moments with people who aren’t in the Apple ecosystem.
